My research focuses on understanding how air transportation systems operate, how travelers and organizations make decisions within those systems, and how research can contribute to more efficient, safe, and sustainable aviation.
My work spans four primary areas: air transportation economics and operations, where I examine airline and airport performance, passenger behavior, competition, scheduling, and operational efficiency; loyalty and frequent flyer programs, with particular attention to how loyalty influences traveler choices, airline strategy, and customer relationships; aviation safety, including the analysis of safety behavior, reporting systems, and organizational practices; and aviation education, where I study issues related to aviation curricula, student learning, workforce preparation, and the development of future aviation professionals.
Across these areas, I frequently use large-scale aviation datasets, surveys, statistical modeling, spatial analysis, and machine-learning methods to investigate both academic and practical questions. Much of my research is interdisciplinary and applied, involving collaboration with airports, airlines, government agencies, industry organizations, and other academic institutions.
A central goal of my research is to connect rigorous academic inquiry with real-world aviation challenges. Through sponsored research, publications, decision-support tools, and graduate student mentorship, I seek to generate knowledge that is both academically meaningful and useful to aviation practitioners and policymakers.
